A Pouch of Pelicans

I love pelicans and I love this collective noun..perfection. There is an alternate noun, a Squadron, which did fit perfectly for one of the images, but I really had to use pouch. These are Brown Pelicans from Florida and they are now in their brighter breeding plumage. It was a great day at the beach with picture (pun intended) perfect conditions. A Day at the Beach – Bird Photography Ft. DeSoto

As a wildlife photographer it is nice to live in a target rich area like Florida. We have a lot (510 species) of birds to photograph and Ft. DeSoto is one of my all time favorite locations. First it is in my neighborhood and as my friend David Middleton points out- all the time, shooting locally is far easier than traveling. I’ve photographed at the park a hundred times and it is always a delight. Even when the photography is slow, a couple miles of huge white sand beaches is not a tough way to spend the morning.
